Visiting Kallang
Practical guide for PGL Major Singapore 2026 playoffs · December 10–13
The venue
Singapore Indoor Stadium sits in the Kallang Sports Hub complex on the eastern edge of downtown Singapore. Capacity 12,000+. The stadium is directly served by Stadium MRT (CC6) on the Circle Line — the station exit puts you a two-minute walk from the arena.
Getting there — from Changi Airport (SIN)
- MRT: from Changi Airport (CG2) take the East-West line to Tanah Merah (EW4), transfer at Bugis (EW12/DT14), then take the Downtown line to Promenade (DT15), change to the Circle line eastbound to Stadium (CC6). ~50 minutes, S$2-3.
- Taxi / Grab: ~20 km, ~25-35 min without traffic, expect S$25-40. Add ~30% on matchday evenings.
- Airport shuttle: pre-booked shared van from Changi drops at major hotel districts (~S$10-15).
Where to stay
- Kallang / Nicoll Highway — closest to the arena, quieter at night, mid-range hotels. Best if you want to avoid public transport on matchdays.
- Bugis / Bras Basah — 15 min MRT to the venue, historic quarter, mid-range and boutique options, close to nightlife.
- Marina Bay — 10-15 min MRT + walk, premium hotels with skyline views (Marina Bay Sands and neighbours), higher price point.
- Chinatown / Outram — 20 min MRT, budget-to-mid range, dense food scene, historic neighbourhoods.
- Little India — 20 min MRT, budget-friendly, vibrant nightlife, distinctive character.
Getting around
MRT is the fastest way to move around the city. The Circle line stops directly at the arena (Stadium CC6). Fares S$1-3 depending on distance. Pay with a contactless bank card or the SimplyGo EZ-Link card sold at any station.
Buses cover neighbourhoods MRT doesn't, cash or contactless. Grab and Gojek ride-hail apps work throughout the city. Regular taxis flag on the street.
Weather in late November – December
Singapore sits 137 km north of the equator. Expect tropical monsoon conditions: 24-32°C (75-90°F), high humidity, and daily late-afternoon thunderstorms. Pack a light rain shell and quick-dry layers. The stadium is fully air-conditioned — bring a light layer for the arena.
Food near the arena
- Kallang Wave Mall — food court right next to the stadium, fast, budget, Asian mix.
- Old Airport Road Food Centre — 15 min walk. Classic hawker centre, S$4-8 per meal, cash preferred at most stalls. Famous for Hokkien mee, satay, char kway teow.
- Geylang — 20 min walk / 5 min MRT. Legendary late-night food street, best after 22:00.
- Marina Bay Sands — 10 min MRT for celebrity chef fine dining and upscale food halls.
Currency and payments
Currency is the Singapore Dollar (S$ / SGD). Contactless cards work almost everywhere. Hawker centres and older shops sometimes prefer cash — carry S$50-100 in small notes for the trip. ATMs are widespread, no foreign-card fees at most bank ATMs.
Language
English is the working language of Singapore and is spoken universally. Signage, announcements and staff at the arena, MRT and hotels are English-first. No language barrier for visitors.
Etiquette
- Singapore takes public cleanliness seriously — littering fines start at S$300. Don't eat or drink on the MRT.
- Vaping is banned outright; possession is punishable. Smoking is restricted to marked yellow boxes.
- Chewing gum imports are restricted; don't bring a bag of it.
- Tipping is not customary in restaurants (service charge is usually included).
Airport arrival & visa
Most Western passport holders, plus most East and Southeast Asian passports, get a visa-free stay of 30–90 days on arrival. Check Singapore ICA for your specific nationality. All arrivals submit an electronic SG Arrival Card online within 3 days before landing — it's free; ignore paid third-party sites.
